Spring Clean-Up Drop Off Days

Town of Clifton Park Spring Clean-Up Drop Off
Town Offers Alternative Program to Curbside Bulk Waste Pick Up

The Town of Clifton Park will offer residents Spring Clean-Up Drop Off Days on Saturday, April 6th and Saturday, April 13th.  This new program will include four drop off stations with the same operating hours for each Saturday:

  1. Veterans Park off McElroy Road, 9am-4pm
  2. Town of Clifton Park Transfer Station, Vischer Ferry Road, 8am-4pm
  3. Town facility at 75 Blue Barns Road, 9am-4pm
  4. Clifton Common, 9am-4pm

Only Town of Clifton Park residents are eligible for the free service. Identification will be required when visiting one of the four sites. Residents will be able to dispose of acceptable items at each site for free.  Specific items will only be accepted at the Transfer Station.  Please see all details related to acceptable items, refuse not accepted, and the items only accepted at the Transfer Station on the attached pages.

Historically the Town Board has conducted a Curbside Bulk Waste Pickup program in alternate years. Following a Request for Proposals process to conduct the program again in 2024, the Town only received one response. Based on the submission from County Waste, we estimate the cost will be in the $250,000-$275,000 range.  This price is virtually double what the Town paid for the same service two years ago.  Unfortunately, due to this significant increase in cost the original curbside bulk waste collection program has become cost prohibitive.

Supervisor Barrett and the Town Board are dedicated to offering an alternative to dispose of household refuse and Spring Clean-Up Drop Off Days will occur on Saturday, April 6th and Saturday, April 13th.  Under this new format the town will staff each location with two employees plus volunteers to assist residents with bulk waste drop off.  Scott Earl, previous owner of Twin Bridges Waste and Recycling, generously donated a roll off truck to the town in recent years that will be utilized for the drop off days.  A town employee will drive between sites picking up full roll offs and dropping off empty ones to ensure residents can be served as quickly as possible.

The Town will also offer two coordinated Giveaway Weekends as another option to keep unwanted items out of the waste stream.  This is the second year the program has been publicized.  Residents are encouraged to leave their unwanted items at their curb for other residents to take and repurpose.  The first weekend will begin at 12pm on Friday, April 5th and end at 5pm on Sunday April 7th. The second weekend begins at 12pm on Friday, May 3rd and ends at 5pm on Sunday May 5th.  Participants are asked to print the flyer and display it with their curbside items and remove all items not taken from their curbs at the conclusion of the event.

Please note the difference in standards for acceptable items for drop off depending on the location. The drop off locations at Blue Barns, Veteran’s Park and the Clifton Common will accept the items listed. Items that are accepted at the Transfer Station only include electronics, motor oil, yard waste, paints and stains, appliances, and other recyclable refuse. It is important to note all of these items are accepted by the Transfer Station for free throughout the year and not just on the days of the Spring Clean-Up program.

There are a multitude of recycling opportunities offered at the Clifton Park Transfer Station throughout the year. No permit is required for residents to utilize these free recycling services.  To dispose of household garbage during the year, a General Permit is $110 and a Senior Citizen permit is $55.  To dispose of bulk waste and other unwanted items at the Transfer Station, other than the two free opportunities in April, please see a full price list at www.CliftonPark.org.

Clifton Park Announces Start of Yard Waste Pickup

CLIFTON PARK ANNOUNCES START OF YARD WASTE PICKUP
Twin Bridges to Begin Curbside Pick-Up April 1st

Twin Bridges will be conducting curbside yard waste pick-up for Clifton Park residents in 2024.   The service will be offered beginning April 1st through the end of November, weather permitting.

“The Town has offered this valuable service to Clifton Park residents for many years, said Town Supervisor Phil Barrett.  This year the Town is partnering with Twin Bridges Waste and Recycling to ensure yard waste is removed, processed, and recycled timely and professionally”.

Leaves, grass clippings, tree and shrub trimmings and other brush will be collected in brown paper yard waste bags only.  The yard waste along with the bags are recycled through a processing system.  No yard waste will be collected from garbage cans or any other containers.  Small, bundled brush that is less than four feet long and three feet in diameter will also be collected.  Bundles need to be tied to allow for easy pick-up and disposal.

Items that will not be collected include animal waste, garden debris, tree or shrub roots of any type, tree stumps or logs, waste products including household garbage, pressure treated wood, railroad ties, building debris, plastic, metal, or other foreign materials.

Twin Bridges will be working their way through the Town weekly.   Residents are encouraged to have their yard waste ready for pickup by Sunday evening.  At various times of the year when yard waste debris pick up is heavier than normal, sections of Town may take longer to collect.  Please do not cover the bags with tarps. Bags must be visible on the curb.

The Town Transfer Station also accepts yard waste all year long during regular business hours from Clifton Park residents only.  No permit is needed but an ID is required. More information can be found at https://cliftonpark.org/departments/transfer-station.html

Saratoga County Department of Aging & Youth Services Available in Southern Saratoga County

It is with great pleasure that we can let you know that staff from the Saratoga County Department of Aging and Youth will be available at the Clifton Park Senior Center on Wednesday, April 17 from 1 - 4 pm to offer individual sessions to answer residents' questions about programs and services. Their office is in Ballston Spa, so there has been advocacy locally to provide more convenient "office hours" for those who reside in Southern Saratoga County.

Supervisor Barrett has coordinated this pilot program to bring the Saratoga County Office of the Aging professionals to the residents of the County through a partnership with the Clifton Park Senior Community Center. This is the first of what we hope will be regularly scheduled times. In order to make that happen, it is important that there be people to take advantage of this opportunity.

What does the Department of Aging offer, you ask? Its purpose is to assist older residents to "remain in their homes and to actively participate in family and community life". This is achieved by providing Information and referral to services (including New York Connects, which offers free unbiased information about long term services and supports), transportation services, job and volunteer opportunities, information regarding senior center and adult day programs, congregate and home-delivered meals, care management, caregiver supports, legal services (wills, power of attorney, health care proxy), in-home services such as EISEP (Expanded In-home Services for the Elderly Program), home energy assistance applications as well as Medicare & Medicare Advantage information and assistance.

Please feel free to "drop-in" to explore options for yourself, a loved one, or someone you think might be in need. And don't hesitate to spread the word!!!

2024 Paving Program

The Town is preparing for another busy year of infrastructure projects including a significant paving program for 2024. The 2024 Budget allocations approved by the Town Board will address the roads included in the 2024 284 Agreement. The Town Board is also moving forward an additional allocation for paving of $1million.

In 2023 and 2024 the Town Board has utilized hundreds of thousands of dollars approved in earlier calendar years for road paving that was unspent by the Highway Department. Currently the 2024 284 Agreement includes the following roads:

2024 Community Action Fund Applications Available

  • Department: Assessor

2024 Community Action Fund Applications Available

On February 4, 2019, Town Supervisor Phil Barrett announced the establishment of a Community Action Fund.  The Fund provides an opportunity for community Non-Profit organizations to apply for funding to support programs and projects that would result in a tangible benefit to Clifton Park and its residents.  Financial support of the Community Action Fund is generated by the donation of bottles and cans that can be redeemed for a deposit.  No Town funds are used to support the program.

Town Supervisor Barrett noticed a large quantity of redeemable bottles and cans in the recycling bins at the Town Transfer Station.  The goal was to provide a donation option for people adjacent to the recycling bins.  The donations would allow the Town to capture revenue from the redeemable bottles and cans.  The funds could then be used to support community organizations and strengthen the Town’s social infrastructure.

A committee consisting of Supervisor Barrett, Councilwoman Walowit and several community representatives was established to make a series of recommendations for the establishment of an application process and criteria.  The committee met in the Spring of 2019 and formalized the application process, establishing that applications would be due September 30th of each year, organizations serving Clifton Park residents could apply and requests would be limited to a maximum of $1,000.

The 2024 application is available at www.cliftonpark.org, on the Town Supervisor’s page for qualifying organizations who would like to apply for a grant through the program and the details of the program have not changed.  Since the inception of the program, over $63,000 has been awarded to dozens of organizations serving the residents of Clifton Park.  The program has been very successful due to the generous donations of bottles and cans by many residents throughout the year.

“The Community Action Fund has exceeded my expectations for delivering assistance to community non-profit organizations serving Clifton Park residents every day, said Town Supervisor Phil Barrett.  Thank you to everyone who has donated bottles and cans to the program resulting in over $63,000 being invested in our community.”
