Clifton Park to Extend Pool Season Through August 24, 2025

  • Department: Assessor

The Town of Clifton Park is pleased to announce that the 2025 pool season will be extended through Sunday, August 24th. All three Town Pools were originally scheduled to close on August 17th. The revised closing dates are as follows:

1. Country Knolls Pool to close on August 20th

2. Barney Road Pool to close on August 24th

3. Locust Lane Pool to close on August 17th

Our Town Pools must follow strict NYSDOH guidelines which require a specific number of lifeguards on duty at all times, along with some of the guards needing to be 18 years of age or older. Our lifeguards are predominantly high school and college students, who have commitments and responsibilities as we enter the mid-August time frame. High School and College fall sports, preparation and travel to college, career and internship opportunities along with other commitments dictate we lose many guards as August passes. The extension of the season at Country Knolls and Barney is strictly a function of the available guards who regularly work at these pools during the season. We are thankful we have enough guards to extend the season at two pools. We further appreciate the guards who are willing to supplement the staff at a pool that is not where they were assigned to work throughout the pool season.

As we prepare for 2026, Supervisor Barrett will be sharing information relating to lifeguard certification opportunities. Free lifeguard training conducted in partnership with Saratoga County, has expanded opportunities for new lifeguards throughout the entire County. This program was initiated a few years ago due to the falling number of available lifeguards during and following the Covid Pandemic. For people interested in earning their lifeguard certification, please look for information that will be forthcoming or contact area organizations who also offer training classes. The minimum age to become a lifeguard is 15 years of age.

COMMON PLAYGROUND RENOVATION TO BE CONSIDERED BY TOWN BOARD

  • Department: Assessor

The Town Board is considering replacing the large playground on The Common.  The idea has been discussed publicly in recent years and the Town has received a significant amount of opinions regarding a new playground design.  In 2022, Supervisor Barrett announced the Town was notified of a $250,000 NYS grant that would be available for the project.

The playground has offered a wonderful experience for countless children over the years.  Our goal is to further the legacy of this Town landmark.  The new plan under consideration would have the same look and feel as the current park with many of the same characteristics.

A new structure would offer many benefits such as modern materials, the latest safety code standards, new and expanded number of fun elements for children to enjoy and the new playground will be designed to be accessible for all children.  The current structure is decades old and comprised of wood.  Our Town personnel do a great job as they spend a significant amount of time maintaining the structure to ensure the safest possible experience for families.  Each year brings new challenges with the condition of the structure.

There are many new elements that are being considered in the proposal. The proposed design will be reviewed at the Town Board Meeting on April 3rd.  Renderings of the plan will be available for residents to view prior to the meeting beginning at 6pm.

Country Knolls Pool Liner Replacement Project

  • Department: Assessor

Update 6/26/2023: The Country Knolls pool will open today at noon! Our team is completing the final opening details this morning. The last couple of weeks have been frustrating and another example of issues we have experienced with contractors this year. Please also note the Locust Lane Pool will be closed Monday through Wednesday this week for Water Safety Instructor Training in preparation for the Learn to Swim program we offer annually for families. The Barney Road Pool will remain open with normal operating hours.

Update 6/26/2023: We began filling the Country Knolls Pool again yesterday afternoon. Our team has done a great job with all preparations to open this pool for the season. We will have an additional update later today.

Update 6/25/2023: The contractor and pool employees arrived early this morning and work continues. All of the water trapped under the liner has been removed and the contractor is fixing the source of the problem that occurred during construction. When the repair is complete we can begin filling the pool and bringing the water to established health standards. Barney Road and Locust Lane pools are open today!

Update 6/24/2023: Work continues at the Country Knolls Pool today. Pumps continue to remove the water trapped beneath the new liner due to a pipe accidentally being blocked by the contractor during construction. The contractor and Pool Manager, Brian Czerpak were working inside the pool and adjusting water levels as necessary. When all the water is removed from under the liner the contractor will begin the repair.

Update 6/23/2023:
We found a small pipe that is part of the overall filtration system was blocked by the construction. The contractor has returned and a pump has been setup to remove the water that collected behind the liner. After the water has been removed from the wall area we will completely drain the shallow part of the pool and they will remove the water that collected between the liner and the bottom of the pool. When the repairs are completed we will fill the pool and restart the process of bringing the water to health standards. We will continue to provide updates as the process continues.

Update 6/23/2023: The Country Knolls Pool Liner Replacement and Construction Project has experienced another delay.  Despite planning the project well in advance of the 2023 pool season and completing the liner removal and most of the construction work in the Fall of 2022, the contractor was late to begin the final step of installing the new pool liner.  The installation did not begin until late May and the estimated timeline for completing this phase of the project is reaching two weeks later than expected.  After we were informed the liner installation was completed earlier this week, the contractor was forced to return to reattach the lines on the bottom of the liner surface.  When that repair was completed, we began to fill the pool in advance of the goal of opening this weekend if there were no further issues.  However, more issues with the liner have arisen.   While working on pool preparations last evening, Town personnel noticed a section of the liner had detached from the wall.  There was also a portion of the liner on the pool floor that was noticeably detached from the pool structure.  Overnight, these defects have become larger as apparently more water has made its way between the liner and the pool structure.  The contractor will need to return to remove the water that is trapped under the liner and make necessary repairs.  This is an extremely disappointing development and another example of the challenges we have experienced with contractors performing construction activities recently.  Town personnel are currently preparing the pool for the contractor’s return to once again conduct repair work on the recently installed liner.  We have experienced a reduction in the number of available companies to perform work on commercial pools over the years and we only received one bid for this initiative.  We will continue to provide updates and open the pool as soon as possible.  The Locust Lane and Barney Road Pools opened Memorial Day Weekend and are open 7 days a week.

Update 6/22/2023: The contractor needed to return yesterday unexpectedly to repair portions of the project that were completed on Monday and Tuesday morning. This is another unexpected delay as pool staff have been working hard to fill the pool and make other important preparations for opening. As soon as we have concrete opening details they will be posted.

Update 6/20/2023: The contractor is finishing up some last details today and our team is preparing the pool grounds for the season. We will begin filling the pool tomorrow and treating the water to ensure all applicable health standards are met. We will provide regular updates on our progress and the pool will open as soon as we possibly can. Unfortunately, the pool liner replacement project took much longer than the original estimate we were provided. Locust Lane and Barney Road Pools are open 7 days a week for your enjoyment.

Update 6/8/2023: The Country Knolls Pool liner replacement project will be completed next week. When an opening day has been determined it will be posted immediately.

Free American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Program

  • Department: Communications & Town News

For the fourth consecutive year, Supervisor Barrett, as Chairman of the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors and the Saratoga County Department of Aging and Youth Services, announces a sponsorship opportunity for FREE American Red Cross Lifeguard and/or Water Safety Instructor training. With New York State funding from the Office of Children and Family Services, there will be 20 slots available for people 15 to 17 years old to obtain lifeguard certification and become employable for the 2026 summer season!

This program has assisted Clifton Park and other communities in increasing the number of certified lifeguards working in our communities following a sharp drop in numbers during the Pandemic.  We consistently need more lifeguards in an effort to build back our team to pre-pandemic levels.  The free training opportunity eliminates the barrier of training expenses and allows lifeguards to be certified in advance of the 2026 pool season.  For general information regarding lifeguard opportunities, please contact the Clifton Park Parks and Recreation department at 518-371-6667.

Future Town Park Updates

  • Department: Assessor
We are consistently working to improve our parks and budgeting for upgrades and maintenance annually. We also plan in advance for major projects in specific parks when needs necessitate a larger investment of funds. For example, earlier this year the Town Board approved funding for a redevelopment of Martin Jewitt Longkill Park off Longkill Road. The plan will result in new playground equipment, new basketball court, revamped parking areas and other amenities.

Details for this plan can be found here.

We are currently discussing ideas for improving the Mary Jane Row Dog Park which is accessible from Ray Road. Some of the ideas include new amenities for park visitors, new exercise equipment features within the fenced areas that can be enjoyed by our pets, improvements to the parking lot and park entrance and other possibilities. This post includes some examples of equipment we have been reviewing. Councilman Tony Morelli will be spearheading this effort with Parks and Recreation liaisons Councilwoman Walowit and Councilwoman Reid.

Please send your thoughts, ideas and firsthand experiences while using the park to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The information you share will be very helpful during our planning process. As we make progress with the planning process, we will offer options for further public review and comment. Thank you for assisting us with this endeavor.
