Questions & Responses to Fuel Station Replacement Bid

FUEL STATION REPLACEMENT PROJECT Written Questions & Responses as of April 3, 2025

• What is the existing asphalt thickness in the areas of removal? Bidder is looking to assign a quantity cost for excavation.

R: The 1998 record plans from the last Tank replacement show 4.5" of asphalt with 12" subbase.

• On the Drawings - Sheet M201 appears to show 12 dotted lines that appear to be saw cuts. The bidder is looking to confirm all twelve are saw cuts.

R: Detail callout 08/M-504 points to the dotted lines, yes there is 12. These are control joints.

• On drawing M-101, it is called out that the dispenser mat is 60'-0" x 26'-6", but on the drawing, it is marked out as 50'-0" x 23'-0". Please confirm the correct size of the dispenser mat.

R: The concrete dispenser apron is 50'-0" x 23'-0".

• On drawing C-501, detail 5 shows a positive limiting barrier. It has been our experience that this barrier has proven to be ineffective to capture any spillage unless meticulously maintained properly. Each groove and section of the barrier must be continually sprayed, swept, vacuumed, and cleaned in some matter to preserve the integrity of each groove. Please confirm if this is the intent of the town with this design. Finally, this type of spill prevention is not required in the state of New York.

R: The Positive Limiting Barrier will remain.

• The asphalt spec. states that RAP (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) is not allowed. RAP is generally used in all mix designs, and I believe that NYSDOT has a max of 20%. I have seen this statement randomly in specs and it is usually copied and pasted without the designer realizing. The price of asphalt without RAP is more expensive.

R: The use of (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) RAP is allowed when the percentage is in accordance with the NYSDOT approved mixed designs.
