How to Mulch Leaves on Your Lawn

  1. Mulching leaves is an easy, eco-friendly way to nourish your lawn and avoid the hassle of raking or
    bagging. Follow these simple steps:
  2. Wait Until Leaves Are Dry- Wet leaves clump together and don’t shred well, so choose a dry day for best results.
  3. Set Your Mower High- Adjust your lawn mower to about 3 inches. This height allows the mower to chop the leaves without
    damaging the grass.
  4. Mow Over the Leaves- Mow slowly and overlap your passes. For thick layers, you may need to go over the area twice.
  5. Check the Leaf Size- When finished, the leaf pieces should be about the size of a dime and lightly cover the grass. If you can
still see large pieces, make another pass.
  6. Let the Mulch Settle- The shredded leaves will filter down into the grass, decompose, and return valuable nutrients to the
    soil.

Pro Tip: If you get a heavy fall of leaves, mulch more often so they don’t pile up too deeply.

A healthy lawn starts with natural recycling—mulch those leaves instead of bagging them.
