Town of Clifton Park 2027 Tentative Budget Released
Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett released the proposed 2027 budget for the Town of Clifton Park. The spending plan will ensure Clifton Park remains without a Town Property Tax, does not break the limitations of the NYS Tax Cap, builds on the Town’s fiscal strength and will invest in important elements across all Town operations.
According to the NYS Comptroller, Clifton Park ranks among the lowest taxed Towns in NYS. The Town’s strong bond rating, significant surplus funds for future investments and emergency situations that has been built over the years and careful budgeting has placed Clifton Park in an enviable fiscal position. Saratoga County has the lowest County taxes in NYS, further enhancing affordability for Clifton Park residents.
The budget includes funding for our Celebrations Committee, established to prepare for some significant milestones in the Town’s history. Clifton Park residents are always very interested in park improvements as we have exponentially expanded our parks network in the last 25 years. Funding to extend public water to Veterans Park, paving Mohawk Landing’s parking lot and a new main floor at our busy Locust Lane Clubhouse are examples of upcoming improvements. The budget also includes funds to pave half of the Burning Bush Clubhouse parking lot. The entrance and lot on one side of the building was paved this year. The entrance and lot on the opposite side of the building would be completed in the Spring of 2027. Due to people visiting the adjoining park and ballfield in the Spring, the beginning of pool season preparation and other activities, paving the entire surface at one time would be very disruptive. Therefore, the plan has been to complete the paving over two years. The Town Dog Park has been improved in 2026 with work continuing. Funds allocated in the 2026 budget and a grant from Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh have resulted in paving in the parking lot, improved ADA access, new fencing and new obstacles within the park will be installed.
A program to outfit key Town buildings with generators was instituted during Supervisor Barrett’s tenure. The generators at Town Hall and the Clifton Park Senior Community Center need replacement. Funds are included in the budget to maintain public safety measures crucial to Town operations at these sites.
The annual funding for CAPTAIN remains in the 2027 budget. The Town and CAPTAIN have enjoyed a longstanding partnership. The Town built an addition to the Public Safety Building for CAPTAIN’s offices that has offices for staff, a meeting room and the base for a busy food pantry. Previously, CAPTAIN’s offices were located within the Senior Center building on The Common. Planning for the new addition began in the early 2000s and the social service organization has continued to occupy the space to this day. CAPTAIN’S growth has necessitated the need for the organization to assess their long-term plans, and the Town has been notified CAPTAIN will be moving in 2027 to a new location. It is expected the move will take place in September of next year. Supervisor Barrett is proposing the NYS Police be provided with the space in addition to their current offices at the Public Safety Building. The NYS Police have had officers and investigators working from this location for many years. Expanding the space provided to the NYS Police will allow for more resources and officers to be working in our area into the future.
Clifton Park residents can be confident as we close 2026 and consider this proposed budget for 2027, Clifton Park is in solid fiscal condition and under the correct leadership, will remain successful.
