Route 146 Mobility and Safety Improvements to Begin this Summer

UPDATE from NYS DOT: NY Route 146 Mobility and Safety Improvements (NYSDOT Contract D265358)

We are pleased to advise you that work on the above-referenced project has started and Lane Closures are scheduled to begin in July.

The project entails a range of vital improvements. The road surface along Route 146 from Tallow Drive to Old Route 146 will undergo a mill and fill pavement treatment, resulting in a smoother and more durable driving surface. Three outdated traffic signals and two overhead signs will be replaced, ensuring clearer and more reliable traffic management. A part of the project will consist of the construction of an additional eastbound through lane at the intersection of State Route 146 and US Route 9.

This project incorporates design principles to better accommodate all users of the roadway. This includes road widening to create safer conditions, the installation of new sidewalks and accessible ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and pedestrian facility improvements. To further enhance pedestrian safety, four existing right turn slip lanes will be removed to eliminate pedestrian crossings where vehicle movements are not controlled by signals. New crosswalks, detection strips and curb will be added.

The majority of the Milling and Paving will be completed at night between the months of July through September 2025. The Traffic Signals and Slip Ram Removals will occur between the months of March through July of 2026. With the completion date of July 17th, 2026.
