The Clifton Park GREEN (Government Re-Thinking Energy & Environment Now) Committee has been assisting and advising the Town Board on energy and environmental impacts and issues since 2007. The committee meets monthly to promote broad energy awareness and consumer education; advocating actions that residents can take to reduce the consumption of limited natural resources. The GREEN Committee has led efforts to improve energy efficiency in town buildings with actions, such as installing energy efficient lighting and roof top solar panels.

In September 2025, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced that the Town of Clifton Park achieved Bronze Certification in New York State’s Climate Smart Communities Certification program through active participation with the GREEN Committee. The program supports local efforts across the state to meet the economic, social, and environmental challenges posed by climate change. To be certified, communities must demonstrate an active task force, which includes residents and municipal representatives, to lead the charge and advance local climate action. The Clifton Park Climate Smart Community Task Force is made up of members of the GREEN Committee and Town employees.

More information on this program and the Town’s actions and certification can be found here, Municipality Detail.
